Another solid week of training in the books! This week I rediscovered my love for strength training. I used to be a total gym rat, and LOVED to lift weights. However, the past few years, I have just lacked motivation in this department. I would force myself to partake in strength training just to prevent injuries and muscle imbalances, but it was tough for me to stay motivated, and felt like a chore. This past week I discovered that the yoga and dance studio at my gym is completely empty from 7:00-8:00pm on Monday and Wednesday evenings. The room is full of mirrors and the perfect lighting, and every piece of strength and balance equipment you can think of. I spent a good portion of my gym time on Monday and Wednesday evenings this week in this very room, and I was able to reignite my strength training spark, and I had fun doing so!
Saturday I found my speed and managed to PR in the 5K!!!
Originally I had a 20-miler slated for today, and an easy recovery run next Sunday. However, I am running a half marathon next Sunday. With a warm-up, 13.1 mile race and a cool-down, I can easily obtain 20 miles. I decided to swap today’s scheduled workout with next week’s. So I ended up doing an easy 12-miler today. I chose not to time myself, as to give not just my legs a break, but my brain as well. There is a thin line between monitoring training pace, and obsessing about it, and I tend to flirt with it on the regular.
After my run I attended the beginner yoga class and have spent the rest of my afternoon relaxing with the hubs and kitties. I am looking forward to another week of solid training, and to test my speed in the half in seven days!
56 days until I embark on a 26.2 mile journey from Hopkinton to Boston!!!
Congrats on the PR speedy! I can’t believe Boston is already inching so close for you!
Awesome job on your race!!!! My goal is to go sub 20 this year too… I think you’re going to achieve it with no problem 🙂
Love that you balance your training knowing that you’re running the half next Sunday. That’s hard to do!!!
Congrats again on the 5k!
