So I have recently discovered the amazingness of thrifting! My sister Autumn has always had awesome luck when it comes to the world of consignment shopping. Historically her closet has always been full of fabulous clothing, shoes and accessories. Over the years she has mastered the perfect balance of new and used clothing. I just never understood the secret. Anytime I went to a place like TJ Maxx or a full-on consignment shop, I would get super overwhelmed with the crowds of people and having to rummage through racks and bins. Ick. I would often quickly become disgruntled and leave empty-handed. Now that I no longer work on Fridays, instead of laying in bed all day, I find it to be the perfect opportunity to go out and explore without having to deal with the throngs of people who come with a weekend.
A few Fridays ago I was out and about running errands and passed a consignment shop that had previously caught my eye, but I avoided going in based on my prior negative experiences. I decided to just take a chance and pull in the parking lot. When I entered, it was just me and the very kind and helpful shop owner. Ahhh, retail heaven! I immediately dove in, and took my time looking through the racks upon racks of clothing. I tried on a quite a bit of loot, but only walked away with two pieces. I scored a super cute white shirt – eyelets and buttons, how could I pass this up?! As well as an awesome skirt!
I scored the top for $5 and the skirt for $12!!! The shop owner said I was making out like a thief with the skirt, it is from the Sitwell label, which is sold at Anthropologie for a much heftier price tag. Schwing! I LOVE me some Anthropologie, but it is one of those stores that I have never purchased any clothing from. Everything I adore tends to sell for a large chunk of my paycheck. Mom says I have champagne taste on a beer budget.
I can’t wait for the temps to improve so I can rock my new duds. I imagine pairing the skirt with a smart button-up and cardigan, with a double-wrap belt over-top and some peep-toe wedges. For a more casual look, I picture matching it with a tucked-in white v-neck tee and some boat shoes.
The top combined with a colorful cardigan, skinny jeans flats, or boots would be totally cute. Hmmm, wouldn’t the outfit be darling if rounded out with my new Wellies?!
As if the day couldn’t get any better, I also swung by a local thrift store and scored a vase for $1.50!!!
I can happily say that I am now a believer in the ways of the thrift.
What is the best thing you’ve scored from thrifting?
