So I normally don’t write about single workouts. But today had to be documented. The last few weeks my speed workouts have been, well, meh. Today I didn’t even want to get out of bed, but stay under the covers for 10 more hours. After putsing around, I slammed my breakfast and headed out for a speed workout. Vomit. I loathe speed workouts. I wish I could just run long runs every day and race every other weekend. After years and years of running, I still hate speed workouts. Any kind of repeat is, well, painful. I don’t like to inflict pain upon myself. But I sucked it up and am SO glad I did.

And the best part? I felt like I could run more. More at 3:02 or faster pace. And it didn’t hurt! I wasn’t crying, I didn’t puke, I didn’t pee myself – well, I ALMOST peed myself, but there was a restroom nearby. I felt so relaxed and smooth the entire workout. I decided to not get greedy and stick to my training plan and let myself do more next week. You read that, LET myself. I dare say, today I cheated on my beloved long run with a little speed workout tryst, and I can’t wait to do it again.
I think today’s workout may have been almost as awesome as the time I met Jungle Jack Hanna…
