Having been an athlete my entire life, as well as a runner for the majority, it is safe to say I have accumulated more than my fair share of t-shirts. A few years ago, while living in Columbus, Ohio, I stumbled upon a rather amazing local business: Keepsake Theme Quilts. This business specializes in crafting beautiful handmade quilts from your most favorite and beloved t-shirts. Keepsake Theme Quilts works hard to run a profitable business while furthering the mission of Deaf Initiatives, a non-profit organization designed to strengthen the potential of deaf and hard-of-hearing youth.
I had a quilt made of shirts from my high school days, including jerseys and t-shirts from basketball, volleyball, cross country and track & field endeavors. I am obsessed with it. I hope to get another one made in the future consisting of shirts from my college days and beyond.
My siblings and I had a quilt made for my mother’s birthday a few years ago. It was after my dad passed away, and she still had quite a bit of his clothing on hand. I snuck some of my dad’s old shirts behind her back, a shirt from her own closet, and a shirt from each of my siblings and brother-in-law, and one from myself and took them over to the Keepsake Theme Quilt headquaters. It turned out so beautiful and soft. I think it is safe to say it is one of her most favorite possessions.
When you order a t-shirt quilt from Keepsake Theme Quilts, you have full reign on all of the design decisions: layout of shirts, colors of border, binding, backing, and even a personalized, embroidered message if you so choose.
I encourage you to pay a visit to the Keepsake Theme Quilts website and check out some other amazing quilts. Such an awesome way to preserve memories, all while supporting a great cause.
It’s a win-win if you ask me.
