Sometimes out of nowhere I get the urge to race. Ever since dealing with hamstring issues after NYC, I’ve been really conservative when it comes to speed work, and have not even allowed myself to look at race websites until I felt confident that I have come back 100% from my injury. Well the time has come, I am pleased with my recovery plan and I am back to feeling like my old self. I haven’t had a single tinge of hamstring aches or pains in weeks knock on wood.
So a few days ago I got to researching races on the net and found a local 5K this weekend, The Scioto Mile 5K. I have no idea what time I will be able to clock with not much speed work under my belt, but that’s half the fun! And to be honest, I’m not out to gun for a PR, I’m out to just soak up the experience at the races, and to be surrounded by like-minded individuals who are out challenging themselves that morning.
While my credit card was out I decided to churn out a few more race registrations! On Holy Saturday I will be running the Bunny Hop 5K - I couldn’t resist, the race takes place in the park that is literally in my mother’s back yard! I even convinced Mommaberries to join in on the fun, she is going to walk the 5K!
The last recipient of my hard-earned cash was the Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon. This race will always be special to me, it’s where I scored my coveted BQ! Last year I jumped in on the half-marathon action at this race after running both Boston and the Flying Pig. This year it will be one week out from my running of the Halstead & Essex Marathon. But I plan on running aforementioned marathon just for ‘fun’ so it will feel more like a training run. Then I am going to run Cleveland for ‘fun’ and then stick around and cheer my face off for all of my favorite Northeast Ohioans just like last year. Mommaberries is going to make the trek up north with me and we are going to make a girl’s weekend out of it. You lucky runners, you get both me AND my mom ringing our cow bells in your faces!
Spring has sprung in these parts and this year it is all about FUN! I am SO excited to see what other running mischief I can get into, but for now I think I’ll give my credit card a break.
Do you ever go on a race registration shopping spree?

I’m so glad I found your blog today. I had been looking for an April race and since I’ll be out of town two of the weekends for vacation, it’s been a little difficult. Now I’m contemplating the Bunny Hop 5K race. Hmmmm….
