Ad courtesy of Nike
I was SO excited to rediscover this photo and statement. I seriously tore this out of a magazine in high school and had it hanging in my track & field locker. This quite possibly was one of the best ad campaigns that targeted women’s body image in a positive light to ever exist. In a world where friends and relatives had different body shapes than me, it could have been easy for me to get down on myself or even feel bad about myself because of my muscular legs, namely thighs. But this ad really resonated with me, it made me feel strong and helped me realize how fortunate I was to have muscles and be able to use my body for athletics. Nike should really consider bringing these ads back and give them a chance to have a profound affect on the teens and women of today.
Which of your body parts are you most proud of?

I love love love this ad. It makes me happy.
I’m proud of my shoulders!
I love this ad too! Every time I start to think negatively about my thighs (my least favorite body part) I remember this ad and think about all the races these thighs have helped me complete.
Holla! Thunder Thighs for life. I am most proud of my thighs as well. They still have a little jiggle but become stronger everyday!
I have always been envious of muscular form, namely yours, and of women who seem born to be natural athletes because sports have never been my forte. I grew up feeling clumsy, gawky and weak until yoga was introduced to me at age 14. Once I started practicing yoga, my negative body image started to change and I realized I could be an athlete albeit a solo one. It was a journey, for sure, but I learned to appreciate what my body was capable of doing in terms of growing stringer. I call it being yoga strong. And that has transformed me. I no longer envy other women’s bodies, but appreciate all types.
I agree that this Nike ad was one of the smartest and coolest ever created.
My favorite body part? My shoulders and arms. They’re a bit leaguer now that I have kids, but I love exercising to strengthen and tone them!
*stronger
*larger
Agreed. Great ad!
Love this ad campaign too!
This will come as a great surprise to you Molly, I love my breasts! Not for what they look like, because heaven knows they’re small, but for the power within to create nutritious, life-sustaining, chronic-disease fighting breastmilk. Pretty much, my girls rock.
I have this tore out and saved somewhere too. I had it hanging up next to my first half marathon training program on the back of my dorm door in college. Ahhh memories.
