Hands-down Independence Day is one of my favorite holidays. To me it is a day to really focus on and celebrate all the wonderful opportunities I have been offerred by living in a country with so many freedoms.
My long weekend kicked-off with a full day devoted to celebrating my freedom to be physically active in all my favorite ways:
- 1 hour yoga session
- 1 hour 40 minute run
- 1 hour bicycle ride
- 1.5 hour kayak adventure
- 3 hour bicycle ride
Saturday was spent with two of my favorite people, my big brother and Mommaberries! I shuttled them around and exposed them to some of the landmarks that can only be found in the CLE. We stopped by the Museum of Natural History, The Christmas Story House, dined on some vegan fare at Tommy’s Restaurant, relived some childhood memories at Big Fun Toy Store and finished up the day with some java from Phoenix Coffee Company.
Sunday I exposed Mommaberries & brother to my favorite metropark, Rocky River Reservation. Mommaberries walked her face off while broski and I partook in some nice run/walk action. We ran a total of 7 miles and walked a total of 30 minutes. This needs to be mentioned because it is the furthest brothaman has ever run! Workout PR for him! Woo! And when we thought the day couldn’t get any better, we bumped into Heather & Jay who were out riding their bicycles! This was a great surprise, it’s a rare occassion that I randomly bump into people that I actually know when out and about!
Later in the evening we headed over to Liberty Fest and enjoyed Hard Day’s Night, a righteous Beatles tribute band, while the hubs and Mommaberries battled it out on the chess board.
The final day of the holiday weekend was spent on a lil’ 5K action in the morning and indulging in America’s pastime in the evening.
The hubs is a mega-watt Yankees fan, and it just so happens they were in town to face off against the Indians. The in-laws, aunts and uncles and multiple cousins made the trek up to the CLE and it was an awesome way to finish out a fantabulous weekend. You really can’t beat warm weather, outdoor activities, spending time with family & friends all while celebrating our gratitude for all of the freedoms bestowed upon us.
How did your Independence Day fare?

Hey, I was at Liberty Fest too. We heard Hard Days Night and stayed to listen to the Cleveland Pops Orchestra and watched the fireworks. You really got a lot of the best of Cleveland in this weekend. But please no more Yankees on your blog, it breaks my heart. :’) It was great to meet your brother and see you mom again at Smiles for Sophia 5k.
Jay and I were at Liberty Fest for a little bit, too! How funny if we had run into each other twice!
Congrats to your bro on the 7 miles – that’s awesome!
