I can’t believe I just finished the 10th week of my Boston training already! Oh my goodness, this is just zooming passed so quickly! Today the weather finally broke, and I honestly probably could have survived on wearing shorts. Mother Nature, please keep the sunshine and warmer temps coming! The sunshine put a lil’ extra pep in my step and I felt like my long run went so well. Really, really happy with this situation. Actually, I felt solid during all of my workouts, and am looking forward to starting the race season this weekend with a local 5k action!
Probably my favorite part of my training week came while doing mile repeats on the indoor track at my gym. I had to rearrange my workouts a bit due to some last-minute work schedule changes. This resulted in me doing my speed workout on Friday morning. I arrived at the gym around 6:30 am and I guarantee I was the youngest person there by a solid 40 years. I did half of my workout on the track, but got frustrated because it was packed with walkers. I love walkers, it was just a tight squeeze. On a three lane track where ten laps equals one mile, it wasn’t exactly easy to manuever around all of the seniors. So I did something that I normally don’t…I hopped on a treadmill. Desperate times call for desperate measures. I managed to get through my last two miles on the dreadmill treadmill, and finished my workout up with a cool down on the track. Prior to my cool-down, a 70-year-old man, Chris, pulled me aside and asked if I ran halves or fulls. I said both, and we talked running for about 10 minutes – he is a marathoner too! He told me I had one of the best strides he had ever seen and he knew I was training for something serious and to keep up the great work! I wore a smile on my face for the rest of the day. This is what the sport is all about – not PRs, or qualifying for races. It’s about connecting with others in the running community and showing love and support for one another, and just celebrating being alive, and the ability to put one foot in front of the other, day after day, and knowing you aren’t alone in your efforts.
63 days until I lace up my kicks and compete with 24,999 kindred spirits in the world’s oldest marathon!

alright….. mile repeats on an OUTDOOR track = loco to me. I’m not even going to start on doing them on an indoor one… wow. just… wow.
